Dreamy sounds of the ocean abound in the new album from harpist Kirsten Agresta-Copely. The music holds deep sentimentality and tenderness, in what is a very beautiful tribute to her late mother. The album’s first and self-titled track “Aquamarine” plays like the start of an adventure, as hopeful and inviting as waves gently crashing on the shore. Kirsten captures the mood so perfectly, you can almost hear the seagulls in the distance. The album is delightfully unrushed, with the aimless exploration of plucked notes and arpeggios that you might expect on a holiday or, for those of us stuck grudgingly at work, a montage to play memories of happier days. Other highlights include the sweet “Glass Octopus” and “Surfacing” featuring melancholic strings from Tess Remy-Schumacher. Sadly, even the brightest days come to an end and the final track “Into The Mist” conveys this bittersweetness expertly, the longing for another such day clear but resolute acceptance in the broken chord.
